Hey all!
I was at the Heritage Hunter tour last night, and saw Opeth, Mastodon, and Ghost!
Fantastic show!
Ghost was sublime. Really creepy music to start, then they explode into their trademark creepy, Mercyful Fate influenced brand of music. Papa Emeritus and the Nameless ghouls look badass, and the performance was tight as hell. Papa Emeritus' vocals sound amazing live!
Then it was Mastodon's turn. Their set was fantastic. I would've liked a little more of the older works, but i can't complain. Seeing "The Hunter", "Crack the Skye", and "Blood and Thunder" live was a great experience. Lot's of flashing lights and bright colours that would make it an epileptics worst nightmare.
Then the highlight of the night stepped on stage. Opeth was spellbinding. Their set was varied, mostly clean (many songs from Heritage), and they played 2 of my favorite songs, "Burden" and "Windowpane"! They did put some death metal in there. Near the end, they played "Demon of the Fall" and "The Grand Conjuration". Overall, all the songs were performed perfectly. The standouts of the set were Folklore (blew me away live), I feel the dark, Demon of the Fall, and The Grand Conjuration. Of course Mikael brought his signature sense of humor, by making jokes at everything from some idiot in the crowd, to Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, to Subway.
Overall, great show!
